Why Terminology Matters

Satta Matka has its own rich vocabulary. If you're new to studying the game's history or trying to understand how charts and results are structured, the terminology can feel overwhelming at first. This glossary explains the most important terms in plain language, so you can read charts, follow discussions, and understand guides with confidence.

Core Number Terms

Ank (अंक)

The word Ank simply means "digit" or "number" in Hindi. In Satta Matka, it refers to a single digit from 0 to 9. The Ank is derived from a three-digit Panna by adding all three digits together and taking only the last digit of the result.

Example: Panna 347 → 3+4+7 = 14 → Ank = 4

Jodi (जोड़ी)

A Jodi is a two-digit number ranging from 00 to 99. It is formed by combining the Open Ank and the Close Ank. The Jodi is one of the most commonly followed result types in Satta Matka.

Example: Open Ank = 4, Close Ank = 7 → Jodi = 47

Panna / Panel

A Panna (also spelled Pana or Patti) is a three-digit number. Every Panna belongs to a specific Ank group — for example, all Pannas that produce Ank 1 (sum = 1 or 11 or 21) are grouped together. There are 220 unique Pannas in Satta Matka.

Single

A Single refers to a bet or prediction on one specific digit (0–9) for either the Open or Close result.

Result Structure Terms

Open

The Open is the first result declared in a Matka round. It consists of a three-digit Panna and its corresponding single-digit Ank. The Open result is announced at a specific time for each market.

Close

The Close is the second result declared, completing the full result for that round. Like the Open, it consists of a Panna and an Ank. Together, the Open and Close Anks form the Jodi.

Full Result Format

A complete Satta Matka result is typically written in this format:

Open Panna × Open Ank — Jodi — Close Ank × Close Panna

Example: 127 × 1 — 13 — 3 × 345

Chart Terms

Panel Chart

A Panel Chart displays full historical results — including both the Open and Close Pannas and the Jodi — arranged in a weekly grid. It is the most comprehensive chart type.

Jodi Chart

A Jodi Chart shows only the two-digit Jodi results over time. It is simpler than the Panel Chart and is often used by those focused specifically on tracking two-digit patterns.

Weekly Chart

Results in a chart are usually organised by week (Monday to Sunday), with each market's chart progressing chronologically from oldest to most recent.

Bet Type Terms

TermMeaning
SingleA bet on one digit (0–9)
JodiA bet on a two-digit combination (00–99)

SangamA combination of Open Panna + Close Ank, or Open Ank + Close Panna

Other Commonly Used Terms

Matka

Literally meaning "earthen pot," Matka refers to the clay pot from which numbers were originally drawn. Today it simply refers to the game itself or a specific market.

Satta

The Hindi word for "gambling" or "wagering." In this context it is used broadly to describe the game.

Bookies / Agents

Historically, these were intermediaries who collected selections and distributed results. They formed the operational backbone of the traditional Matka network.
